Enjoy an hour-long journey through American music spanning the past century, performed by violinist Eliot Heaton of the Philadelphia Orchestra and pianist Thomas Weaver, interim associate chair of musical studies at the Curtis Institute of Music. From Aaron Copland to today’s local composers, this recital celebrates the rich and evolving musical landscape of our nation in honor of America’s 250th anniversary and is hosted by composer Tommy Dougherty. In selecting works from our Call for Scores, we were looking for distinct, unique voices that would complement the works by American icons Amy Beach and Aaron Copland. By presenting the music of Sam Wu, Whitney George, and Dan VanHassel, we’re excited to give our audience a small taste of what comprises the vast American musical landscape of today.
