David Borghesani, chocolate historian for Mars, will walk you through the origins of chocolate, how it is made, how it came to this country as well as share some fun—and edible!—chocolate facts. The history of chocolate dates back nearly 3,500 years to when the cacao tree was first domesticated in the rain forests of Central and South America. Steeped in tradition, chocolate has been a part of the fabric of American lives for over 400 years. It was enjoyed at Winterthur by the du Pont family and their guests and is represented by various exquisite objects in the Winterthur collection. $15; $10 Winterthur and DMNH members. Tickets to this event include admission to Yuletide Jazz & Wine in the Visitor Center on December 1 and access to the Galleries. $10 upgrade for a house tour (reservations required; capacity limited). Tickets are non-refundable within five days of the event and may not be exchanged for another date and time.
