Contributions in Support of Museum Collections

As they build on an outstanding collection, the staff of the Museum Collections Department is grateful for Winterthur’s many supporters who contribute directly to this area of the museum. The 2008 fiscal year (July 1, 2008 to June 31, 2009), alone, saw more than 100 objects join the collection as gifts or bequests, and funds were provided for more than two dozen acquisitions.

Museum Collections especially relies on the generosity of Collectors Circle members to help acquire fine and decorative arts masterpieces. Many of these donors make important contributions of objects, archival materials, or funds towards purchases. In recognition of their generosity, Collectors Circle donors receive exceptional benefits. As well as receiving invitations to many Winterthur events, donors have the opportunity to travel with curators to private houses and collections throughout the United States and Europe. Recent study tours focused on Portugal and New England. The Collectors Circle annual meeting is a three-day event featuring study sessions with curators, opportunities to get to get to know other members, visits to sites of interest, and an exclusive preview of the annual Delaware Antiques Show. Collectors Circle donors have access to Winterthur’s decorative and fine arts experts and may meet with Winterthur’s curators about their own collecting interests and with Winterthur’s conservators about caring for their collections. For more information, please contact the Collectors Circle office at 302.888.4673 or e-mail

The Port Royal Society recognizes, honors, and thanks loyal supporters who have continued the generous legacy of H. F. du Pont by remembering Winterthur in their estate plans. Membership in the Society is exclusive to those who have designated Winterthur as a beneficiary of their estate and who have informed Winterthur of this commitment in writing. Port Royal Society members are honored at an exclusive annual event and recognized in the annual Honor Roll of Donors. Members also receive special invitations to Winterthur events and educational programs. For more information, please call the Development Office at 302.888.4763 or e-mail
