The marking of time by a calendar or fiscal year is rather artificial, but it provides a moment to reflect on the generosity and accomplishments of Winterthur’s remarkable supporters, staff, and volunteers; they inspire us daily and propel us forward with their dedication to our mission. This 2020 annual report includes a sampling of highlights from the calendar year and a snapshot of our financial health in the fiscal year, which ran from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020. Within these pages you will see the people, initiatives, and contributions that made the past year such a success.
The Covid-19 crisis made this year particularly difficult for Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, and we are grateful to our loyal and generous supporters who have helped us through it. Winterthur is a massive institution to operate, with dozens of buildings and nearly 1,000 acres to maintain in addition to the thousands of volumes in our research library, objects in the collection, and the world-class conservation labs. During this time of need, we rely on grants, corporate sponsors, private gifts, and membership to help us maintain our operations, support our staff, and allow us to fulfill our vision: to inspire exploration of American culture and landscapes through compelling stories and experiences. We recognize those individuals and businesses for gifts received from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, in our annual Honor Roll of Donors.
