(Maiden Timber)

Purse $10,000. Timber. For Four Year Olds and Upward which have never won over timber. Four-year-olds, 155 lbs.; five-year-olds, 160 lbs.; older, 165 lbs. Entry fee $75; $75 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $150 additional to start.

Three Miles and One Quarter over Timber.

SECOND RACE THE WINTERTHUR BOWL

(Timber Stakes)

Nominations Close Monday, May 17

Purse $20,000. Timber. For Five Year Olds and Upward. Five year olds, 160 lbs.; older, 165 lbs. Non-winners of two races over timber, allowed 5 lbs.; of a race, 10 lbs. (Amateur apprentice timber races not considered.) Nomination fee $50; $150 additional to enter; $200 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday, with $400 additional to start. Supplementary nominations, at a cost of $250, may be made at the time of entry.

THIRD RACE THE VICMEAD PLATE

(Amateur Apprentice Timber) In honor of Louis “Paddy” Neilson III

Purse $10,000. Timber. For Five Year Olds and Upward. 170 lbs. Non-winners of a timber stakes, allowed 5 lbs.; of a race over timber, 10 lbs. Riders who have never won a race, allowed 5 lbs. No other rider allowances. Entry fee $50; $50 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $100 additional to start.

Three Miles and One Quarter over Timber.

$5,000 of this purse, and an engraved goblet to the rider, have been donated by the National Steeplechase Foundation, for the promotion of amateur racing.

FOURTH RACE THE MIDDLETOWN CUP

(Amateur Training Flat)

For Three Year Olds and Upward. To be ridden by amateur riders. Three-year-olds, 150 lbs.; older, 160 lbs. Maidens allowed 5 lbs. Jump riders are eligible for applicable jump apprentice allowances. Entry fee $50. The result of this race does not count toward a horse’s official record. A $500 award to the owner and trainer of the winner.

Pony Races

1. 2021 Conditions

No first time riders. All entries must have a prior race.
Scratches will be at the discretion of the racing committee.

Small Pony 
Open to ponies under 13.0 hands, children under 16 years of age as of 1/1/20, catch weights, 3 entries to fill. If size of pony is questioned, the owner is responsible for verification. About four furlongs on the turf.

Large Pony 
Open to ponies over 13.0 hands and under 14.2 hands, children under 16 years of age as of 1/1/20, catch weights, 3 entries to fill. If size of pony is questioned, the owner is responsible for verification. About six furlongs on the turf.

3. General Information 
Winterthur’s pony races are named for long-time rider and equestrian, Alison Hershbell. Alison’s parents, Charlene and Dave, have dedicated many years volunteering at the Winterthur Point-to-Point, where Alison once rode. It is an honor to recognize her outstanding contributions.


Medals

Medals will be awarded to the winner of each of the two divisions and to the “best turned out” horse in each race.


Entries
Winterthur will be taking online entries for both the Small and Large Pony Races until Tuesday, May 25 at 11:00 am, when it promptly closes. No post entries will be allowed. The fee is $30.


Insurance and Indemnification 

You will be required to show proof of insurance and sign an indemnification agreement at the time you claim your number cloth on race day. No exceptions to this rule.


Race Procedures 

Please be on the grounds by 10:30 am to check in with pony race coordinator Charlene Hershbell at the Tower. Paddock time will be 11:30 am for both the Small and Large Pony Races. Post time for the small ponies will be 12:00 noon. Post time for the large ponies will be immediately after the end of the Small Pony Race. Medals will be awarded to the winner of each of the two divisions and “best turned out horse” in each race.

Parking and Admission
Due to COVID restrictions, only the rider and parent or guardian will be admitted. Parking hangtags must be clearly displayed in your vehicle. Admission wristbands must be worn at all times. There will be no hospitality tent or concession sales this year so please plan to bring your own food and drink.
