SUMMARY:The Historic Designed Landscape: Marian Coffin & H. F. du Pont at Winterthur
DESCRIPTION:Winterthur and the University of Delaware present this day-long workshop on understanding and managing a “historic designed landscape.” We will explore the theme of how and why landscapes change by examining the lifelong partnership of Marian Coffin\, the trailblazing MIT-trained landscape architect\, and her friend\, H. F. du Pont\, the third and last du Pont to live at Winterthur. Using the Winterthur garden as the example\, we will learn how to manage the historic designed landscape and grapple with the difficult challenges of documenting\, identifying significance\, and managing historic plants. This is the first of several planned courses in 2021 exploring the cultural and historical landscapes of the Delaware region. Coffee\, tea\, and lunch provided. This program will be in the field for most of the day\, unless the weather forces the program indoors. Please dress appropriately\, wear sunscreen/insect repellent. Registration required. $75. Scholarships available for students and interns in landscape architecture\, horticulture\, and related programs\, please call 800.448.3883 to inquire and register). \nRegister now!
