SUMMARY:Sustainable Style Fair
DESCRIPTION: Join us for a series of workshops highlighting sustainable products and practices that will add eco-friendly flair to your household\, your wardrobe\, or your next gathering. Local business owners\, craftspeople\, and Winterthur staff offer practical tips and advice as you celebrate the potential of old objects\, discover creative ways to upcycle\, and incorporate nature into your daily decor. Optional box lunch available for pre-order for $15. Register by May 12. To register for any of the workshops\, click here. \nWorkshops:\nPower Rug-Tufting\n9:00 am–12:15 pm or 1:30–4:45 pm \nLearn to use power tufting machines to create rugs by hand with the help of internationally recognized artist and designer Tim Eads. Create and tuft your own simple design for a 20″ x 20″ rug or pillow using post-industrial\, recycled cotton yarns. Learn how to cut\, glue\, and finish a rug for use on the floor or as a wall hanging and about other ways you might incorporate recycled materials.  All supplies are included and tufting machines are provided. Additional supplies and the tufting machine will be available for purchase at a discounted price. $90; $80 per Member.  \n  \nDarn It!\n10:45 am–12:15 pm \nWhether from moths or sheer age\, knits will go holey. Join Kate Sekules\, mending historian and author of MEND! A Refashioning Manual and Manifesto (Penguin)\, and mend your cherished old friend with an attractive scar\, while hearing the story of this ancient technique. You will stitch a gorgeous darn and also learn half a dozen novel methods of beautifully fixing a sweater that’s been moth-eaten\, unraveled\, snagged\, or simply loved too long. Beginners and experts welcome. $40; $35 per Member. \n  \nPlayful Patching\n1:30–3:00 pm \nDon’t just mend your garment\, celebrate it! Join Kate Sekules\, mending historian and author of MEND! A Refashioning Manual and Manifesto (Penguin)\, to fix and personalize your clothes with added style and story. Select from a cornucopia of vintage and historic materials from Kate’s own collections to apply underpatch\, porthole\, patchiko\, or traditional felled patch. Come with no skills whatsoever and leave with creative techniques and enthusiasm to mend for life. $40; $35 per Member. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nImage at top: Tim Eads\, designer\, artist and maker
