SUMMARY:Objects Up Close: Winterthur's "Louisiana" Armoire
DESCRIPTION:Many Hands\, Many Marks\, Many Stories: A Closer Look at Winterthur’s “Louisiana” Armoire \nTake a close look at and learn the history of an 18th-century armoire in the Winterthur collection. While we will never know the full story\, many marks left behind by the armoire’s many users offer a rich story of craft\, labor\, and community. This talk explores what this armoire might have meant to those who made or used it and reflects on what it could mean for Winterthur. The speaker\, Grace Ford-Dirks\, is a 2023 graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture and currently the research assistant in American silver at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
