DESCRIPTION:Almost Unknown\, the Afric-American Picture Gallery brings to life William J. Wilson’s 1859 fantastical essay. This symposium will explore broader approaches to how Wilson’s essay can be integrated into American history and how it connects to Henry Francis du Pont’s legacy and Winterthur’s history.  \nThe keynote speaker is Fred Wilson\, curator of Mining the Museum\, the seminal 1992 exhibition at what is now the Maryland Center for History and Culture. Wilson used that museum’s collections to confront and challenge perceptions about history\, culture\, and race\, and the installation continues to influence scholars and museum professionals today. \nJoin a diverse audience of museum professionals\, educators on the college and secondary levels\, scholars\, enthusiasts of African American history\, and the wider Wilmington community for this engaging two-day event.

SUMMARY:Wellness Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Activate your internal energy and strengthen your body and spirit as you practice slow\, easy motions to get into the rhythm of nature. Led by Beth Sheehy. Bring a yoga mat\, small towel\, and a water bottle. Wear layers appropriate to the season. \nDrop-in classes; held in the garden\, weather permitting. In inclement weather\, location will move indoors. Locations will be posted by the main gate and outside Brown Horticulture Center. Members only. $15 per Member per class; cash only. Tap your toes to the sounds of the area’s best musicians\, savor a seasonal cocktail\, and see our magical gingerbread and doll houses. \nGentle Flow & Sound: A Meditative Yoga Experience\, 6:00–7:00 pm\nJoin us for a gentle\, meditative yoga session featuring soothing seated and standing poses\, guided by an instructor and accompanied by live violin. Breathe\, unwind\, and let go of holiday stress in this serene\, restorative experience. Drop-in program. Yoga takes place in Copeland Lecture Hall. A yoga mat is not needed as the practice will take place seated in lecture hall chairs. Included with Holiday Nights admission; free for Members.\n  \nPurchase tickets.
