SUMMARY:Bank to Bend
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the early-spring garden and bulb display on the beautiful March Bank with a day of events. The event gets its name from the du Pont family custom of walking the path from the March Bank to Magnolia Bend at this time of year looking for the first flowers in the garden. \nYour admission includes access to the plant sale\, the guided Director’s Garden Walk\, and guided and self-guided walking tours of the garden. \n10:00 am–3:00 pm: Plant Sale of cyclamen\, perennials\, and unusual snowdrops. Members’ preview sale\, 9:00–10:00 am \n1:00 pm: Director’s Garden Walk: Snowdrops and Other Minor Bulbs   \nFor an additional fee of $10\, you can also attend the lecture: \n11:00 am–12:00 pm: “Snowdrops and Friends\,” lecture presented by Anne C. Repnow. \n \nSnowdrops flower in the darkest\, coldest\, and most dismal months of the year. You can have fun with snowdrops in your garden for a long time\, as the various species and cultivars bloom over 6 months. But snowdrops\, in spite of being rather exclusive plants\, should not be collector’s items. They are at their best in the garden\, snuggling up to other plants that have some winter interest. \nThis lecture focuses on particularly beautiful and unusual snowdrops but also features plants that combine well with them. Evergreen ferns and small perennials\, shrubs and other geophytes: there are many plants that are beautiful as a backdrop or as dancing partners for snowdrops. Together they can be used to create small\, heartwarming vignettes of winter beauty. \nAnne C. Repnow lives and gardens near Heidelberg in Germany. After studying zoology at Oxford University\, she embarked on a career in scientific publishing\, which kept her from in-depth gardening for many years. However\, she managed to squeeze in training courses in horticulture and garden design. She visited and studied well-known gardens\, both in Germany and Great Britain\, and gained valuable experience experimenting with plants in her own gardens. Eventually\, she followed her heart and left publishing to become a garden designer. She has a great interest in snowdrops\, winter gardens\, and drought resistant plantings. Lecture followed by book signing. \nSelf-guided tours\, plant sale\, and guided garden walk included with admission. Members free. Lecture may be added for $10. Registration recommended. \nRegister now.
