SUMMARY:Winterthur Dances
DESCRIPTION:Get your dancing shoes on for a night inspired by the dances of Henry Francis du  Pont’s parties\, with a modern twist! Dress in modern or era clothing (if you wish) and join us for an evening celebrating dancing\, live music\, and connecting with others. Joined by the dance instructors from the BlueBallRoom Dance Studio with music from H. F. du Pont’s era performed by Sean Reilly and David Zipse\, you’ll be transported back in time.  \nDancing has always been a vital and dynamic part of American culture. Through the centuries\, dancing has changed to reflect evolving attitudes and behaviors; the waltz was considered scandalous by some when it became popular. Dance is constantly invigorated by the contributions of diverse cultures and music\, and America has contributed to the world of dance by creating original forms and styles. Reservations required. $40; $35 for Members. Includes general admission\, one era-inspired cocktail and bite\, and a dance lesson with BlueBallRoom Dance Studio.  \nRegister now.

I’m just excited about being around other artists\, designers\, and artisans. This is kind of like my first rodeo.” \nReceiving the grant is also about serving as an example to artisans who\, like her\, are just starting out. SUMMARY:Wine through Winterthur: Sommelier Secrets
DESCRIPTION:When Henry Francis du Pont inherited Winterthur\, it included his father’s extensive wine collection\, which he enjoyed (and added to) into the 1960s. Prohibition had inspired the du Ponts to create storage for wine that might last the rest of their lives. Grigsby\, senior curator of ceramics and glass\, who will present an overview of how wine was acquired\, traded\, and enjoyed in America and Britain during the 1700s and early 1800s. Then\, winemaker Virginia Mitchell will discuss the harvest and explain the intricate winemaking process from vine to bottle. Finally\, learn proper wine tasting techniques and try five different wines paired with five delectable cheeses. Reservations required. $75; $70 for Winterthur and DMNH members. Sold out. \n \nWhet your palate by visiting the online exhibition Uncorked! Wine Objects & Tradition and enjoy a virtual tour of the 2012 galleries display. \n  \nJoin us for our other Wine through Winterthur events:  \nHarvest Tasting\, September 17\, 4:00–7:00 pm \nWine & Tapas Tasting\, October 16\, 3:00–6:00 pm \nWalking Wine Tasting\, November 21\, 1:00–5:00 pm \n
