See what’s in bloom and explore unseen or off-the-beaten-path areas of the garden. Members free. Reservations required; limited to 50 participants. Wear walking shoes and bring water\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. Portions of the walk may be over dirt\, grass\, and paved paths and may include uneven ground and steps. Walks leave promptly from the Visitor Center. Please check in at the admission desk 10 minutes before scheduled walk time. In case of inclement weather\, a decision will be made the day prior. Tour reservations required.\nRegister now.\n \nSpecial Underground Railroad Bus Tour\, 9:30 am–12:30 pm\n\nFollow the route of many freedom seekers on their trek through Pennsylvania with Dr. Jonathan Michael Square\, the guest curator of Almost Unknown: The Afric-American Picture Gallery\, and two guides from the Kennett Underground Railroad Center. Leaving from Winterthur\, you will travel up Kennett Pike (Route 52) and cross the state line into Chester County\, Pennsylvania\, the “hotbed of abolition.” Visit documented Underground Railroad sites\, historic homes\, and Quaker meetinghouses while learning about local abolitionists and anti-slavery activity in the Kennett Square area. The tour will also present the contributions of local African Americans and their faith communities in the quest for freedom from slavery. \n$30 per person. DESCRIPTION:Join us to explore some of the hotspots for birds at Winterthur\, including wetlands\, meadows\, and the woodlands along Clenny Run. Observe resident birds as well as migrating raptors\, warblers\, and sparrows. For beginning or experienced bird watchers. Bring your binoculars. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear walking shoes. Park in the Visitor Parking Lot and meet at the Picnic House (the small building at the far end of the lot).
