DESCRIPTION:Mined Opulence: A Silver Dinner and Dessert Service from Nevada \nWhat happens when we interpret decorative art through the silver mine? During the Gilded Age\, the American silver industry emerged out of the rapid growth of the mining industry in the West in the late nineteenth century\, and artworks often came to express complicated ideas about politics\, extractive industry\, and land. Based on research in her forthcoming book\, The American Silverscape\, Dr. Christine Garnier\, assistant professor of art history\, University of California\, Santa Barbara\, will only scratch the surface of this complex historical moment through Tiffany & Co.’s dinner and dessert service for the family of Comstock billionaire John Mackay\, all made from silver extracted from the Consolidated Virginia Mine in Virginia City\, Nevada. \nThe Research at Winterthur series\, presented by the Library\, Research Fellowship Program\, and Continuing Education\, showcases new projects and publications that tap into our rich collections and resources\, unveiling innovative perspectives for exploring the fascinating stories that objects can tell about people and our shared past. Registration required. DESCRIPTION:Exclusively for Members! This introductory level\, easy-to-learn set of twenty movements helps dissolve tension\, reduce chronic pain\, and improve balance. Based on the ancient Chinese principles of activation and circulation of energy (chi)\, T’ai Chi Chih is an easily adaptive and enjoyable program that can be done by anyone\, regardless of age or physical ability. Classes are led by Jessica Lewis\, accredited T’ai Chi Chih instructor. Classes meet outside the Picnic House in the rear of the Visitor Parking Lot and take place in the garden\, weather permitting. DESCRIPTION:This fall marks the 150th birthday of Marian Coffin\, the pioneering woman of landscape architecture who designed gardens at Winterthur\, Gibraltar\, Mt. Cuba\, the University of Delaware Green\, and many others in the Delaware Valley and beyond. This also marks the 10-year anniversary of the launch of the University of Delaware’s Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program. \nTo celebrate these milestones\, Winterthur\, the UD Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program\, and Preservation Delaware\, the non-profit that oversees the Marian Coffin Gardens at Gibraltar\,  have developed a two-day symposium to bring awareness to her remarkable achievements\, her influence on landscapes and the relevance of the field of landscape architecture and historic garden and landscape preservation today. \nClick here for more information and to register.

Cuba Center’s space to learn how the center serves as a botanical garden dedicated to the conservation of native plants and their habitats.\n	Learn which vegetables can be seeded for the fall season and see demonstrations of seeding and transplanting vegetables into containers from the Food Bank of Delaware. Take free seeding supplies to try your new skills at home.\n	Stop by the Best Buddies Delaware table to learn more about their mission of inclusion and their current programs offered throughout Delaware. Make a friendship bracelet or participate in other fun kindness-themed crafts.\n	Spinning a Yarn: Wool at Winterthur\nJoin Matthew Monk\, associate textile curator\, and friends as they spin\, dye\, and weave using wool from the Winterthur merino sheep. See and feel textile work in action\, ask questions\, and learn about our sheep\, wool\, and the historical processing\, dyeing\, and use of wool.\n	Watch members of the Harmony Weavers Guild and FiberGuild demonstrate various techniques\, including spinning fiber into yarn using drop spindles\, traditional spinning wheels\, or electronic spinners; weaving yarn into textiles on portable looms; knitting with traditional needles or a knitting machine; and kumihimo\, a Japanese braiding technique.\n	Visit The Wheelmen to explore the heritage of early American bicycles. Meet members who restore and ride vintage bicycles\, research cycling history\, share stories\, and keep skills from cycling’s golden era (through 1932) alive.
