Check these out:

  • Witch hazel:  The delicate yellow ‘ribbons’ of American witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana), Chinese witch hazel (Hamamelis mollis ‘Wisley Supreme’), and hybrid witch hazel (Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Sunburst’) can be found throughout the gardens.
  • Camellias:  The white camellias (Camellia varieties) are in bloom – single and double, small and large – on the upper side of the Cottage.  What a show of blossoms!
  • Pretend it’s spring: 
    • The forsythias are blooming on the field edge of Azalea Woods (Forsythia species) and on Sycamore Hill (Forsythia ‘Winterthur’).
    • Two of the snowdrops (Galanthus ‘Barnes’) and (Galanthus ‘Potter’s Prelude’) are blooming in the Boxwood Garden near the Museum.
    • In Enchanted Woods, several azaleas (Rhododendron ‘Alight’) are blooming.
    • Along the Winterhazel Walk, several Korean rhododendrons (Rhododendron mucronulatum) are blooming.
    • In Azalea Woods, a pink tree rhododendron (Rhododendron hybrid Winterthur Dexter #55) is blooming.
