Terrific Tuesdays: Kid-Size Conservation!

Tuesdays in July and August

10:00 am–3:00 pm

For the first time, Terrific Tuesdays will focus on art conservation! Kids will explore conservation through several hands-on activities. Each activity has a unique theme focused on a certain aspect of conservation, such as color and art, repair and preservation, light, and environmental factors. Experiments will allow kids to try conservation for themselves. They will make their own egg tempera paint and dyes to use on scarves or T-shirts in order to better understand how paint is made; repair and preserve one of their favorite toys; and even learn how to make color from bugs!

On July 10 and August 14, bring a toy in for "teddy bear triage" and see first-hand how the conservators work to repair an object.

Who knows, you could discover you have a future art conservator on your hands! Keep checking the Web site for more details on other topics for each Terrific Tuesday.

Members free! Discounted admission for nonmembers: $5 per child with one free adult.

Your attendance at this event allows Winterthur to use your photograph for promotional purposes without compensation.

This program is made possible, in part, by the F. M. Kirby Foundation; Bank of America Foundation; a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts; the Max & Victoria Dreyfus Foundation, Inc.; and the Dow Chemical Company Foundation.
