Job Description: Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library seeks a Preventive Conservation Aide to become part of a team responsible for the day-to-day care of our collections. Working under the supervision of the Manager of Preventive Conservation, along with the Director of Lighting the Aide will perform various tasks to maintain the overall well-being of the collection within the Museum, Galleries, and storage areas. These tasks include, but are not limited to: dusting objects, buffing floors, vacuuming, pest management, changing light bulbs.
The Preventive Aide will work independently and alongside fellow Aides to complete routine, time-sensitive, and planned tasks. Periodically, Aides are called on by other departments to help in object movement, special event setups, and special object care.
Job Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma, with a strong interest in cultural heritage, museums, and historic objects. They must exhibit confidence on a ladder at 12 feet and is able to pick-up 40 pounds. Applicants must be familiar with the basics of Microsoft Office and their use (Outlook, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors in Museum Studies, Art Conservation, Art History, or similar field of study. Two years prior experience working at a museum, historic site, or similar institution with collections. Formal or on-the-job training with basic collections care and maintenance, museum lighting, and pest management. Awareness of general museum protocol, policies, procedures, and object databases.
