JOB TITLE: Human Resources Generalist

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment/employment, on-boarding, employee relations, training, performance management, policy implementation, benefits administration, and employment law compliance.

This position is responsible for performing HR related duties such as providing advice and guidance on the interpretation of Human Resources policies as they relate to individual and organizational strategic objectives while ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations.  The HR Generalist will work closely with & support the HR Director. The Human Resources Generalist will primarily be responsible for recruitment and on-boarding of all employees and all personnel status changes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Recruiting:
    • Initiate and coordinate the full cycle recruitment and selection process collaborating with Hiring Managers.
      • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations;  and writes and places advertisements.
    • Ensure compliance with employment law and organizational pre-employment HR processing requirements
    • Coordinate on-boarding processing of new hires; Conduct exit interviews and off-boarding meetings, as needed
    • Maintain employment process records
    • Coordinate preparation of position descriptions as employees jobs are “reclassified” due to duties, salary, etc.
  • Employee Relations Initiatives:
    • Manage and administer a broad range of employee related tasks including resolving payroll-employment issues, and counseling managers and employees on the interpretation of policies and procedures.
    • Verifies change of status information on employees (e.g. resignations, salary increases, promotions, etc.).
    • Manage new hires and separations in the HRIS database by processing new hires, separations, transfers, promotions, and pay increases.
    • Consult with employees, supervisors, and department heads to resolve work-related conflicts through advice and recommendation.
  • Training:
    • Provide biannual full-day new hire orientation sessions
    • Provides other professional training as needed
  • Other duties, as needed.
    • May assist with benefit enrollments; benefit administration including claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits information to employees.
    • May administer the compensation program and the performance evaluation program
    • Create and utilize correspondence templates, forms, tools, and visual presentations using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point software

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other staff members.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a 35 hour/week full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with flexibility as needed.  

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Required Education and Experience

A bachelor’s degree and three to five years of  HR experience, or a master’s degree in HR management and two years of experience in the HR field.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire date.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Masters’ degree in human resources or related field.
  2. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential.
  3. Eight years of Hr Experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire date.

Highly developed and demonstrated interpersonal and relationship skills.  Highly developed and demonstrated written, oral communications and time management skills.  Outstanding organizational and analytical ability; ability to manage competing priorities. Highly developed and demonstrated ability to lead and manage people.  Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Knowledge of laws affecting & relating to Human Resources Management e.g. FLSA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, EEO, etc.

Minimum: 5 years of HR experience with 2-3 years experience as an HR Generalist.

Preferred: 6+ years of demonstrated progressive responsibility in Human Resources with “hands on” experience in recruiting, compensation, benefits, payroll, employee relations, and compliance.
