Children's Vegetable Garden
Exclusively for Members!
Registration deadline May 30.
Saturdays, June 13–August 8 (no July 4th class)
8-9:30 am (Beginner class for ages 6-8; Advanced class for ages 9-11)
Children of member families are introduced to vegetable gardening in this 9-week course. They learn to plan, cultivate, care for, and harvest their own plots as well as form a community garden with staff horticulturists. Each session is an hour and a half. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All garden tools and seeds are provided. Call 302.888.4779 for more information or to register.

Once Upon a Family Tour
Beginning June 20, 2009 Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00 am (members only) or 12:30 pm
Beat the heat and join us this summer for an interactive tour designed especially for families with children between the ages of four and twelve. Learn about the lifestyle of the du Pont family while exploring the period rooms and spaces where they played and entertained. 45 minutes - 1 hour tour. Strollers welcome.

Enchanted Woods Family Pack
Pick up a Family Pack in the Galleries Reception Area of the museum to help you and your family use your senses to explore the Enchanted Woods in new ways. Loaded with open-ended activities and learning tools! Free with admission. Check-out at the Galleries Reception Desk in the museum building. Limited quantity available. Most appropriate for children ages 3 - 7 and their caregivers.

Faces of a New Nation: American Portraits of the 18th and Early 19th Centuries from The Metropolitan Museum of Art

View masterpieces portraying the men, women, and children of early America. These stunning paintings depict not only people from a particular time and place, but they also reveal the values of the nation across a span of nearly 150 years.
Winterthur is the only venue for this select group of portraits from The Met, which represents many of the young country’s great artists, including John Smibert, John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, and Samuel F. B. Morse. Members free. Included with all admission tickets.

Terrific Tuesdays

On Tuesdays in August, children and their families are invited to enjoy learning about early America and its people through a variety of fun activities related to the temporary exhibition Faces of a New Nation on loan from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Make a portrait-related craft, visit the Touch-It Room, enjoy storytellers, and much more! New activities each week! Recommended for children ages 5-12.
Program Highlights Include:Aug. 4 & 18: Enjoy portrait stories with Bill Wood
Aug. 11: Be inspired and excited by Colonial-era fife and drum performances and an instrument "petting zoo" with teaching artists from the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.
Aug. 18: Be a part of the action and learn some colonial-era dance steps and "proper" deportment with George Tolton, an itinerant Dance Master.
Members free and children under 2; $6 children 2–11; 1 adult free per child, $18 additional adults; $16 seniors and students.

Free for Members. $5 per non-Member child with 1 accompanying adult free. Children under 2 free. $18 each additional adult.
