Bring your students to Winterthur to learn about life long ago. Serve tea in the parlor, barter for goods in the country store, identify archaeological fragments, or help solve a mystery without leaving the museum!
Wonderful tours of the Winterthur garden are also available for select age groups.
Availabilty: Tuesday-Friday, 9:30 am and 11:45 am. Special arrangements can be made for programs on weekends or at different times. Groups must arrive at Winterthur's main gate on Route 52 at least 15 minutes before scheduled start time.
Admission: $5 per student, payable on arrival. Minimum 15 students. Most programs can accommodate a maximum of 72 children, except where noted. Limited scholarships are available to cover both admission and transportation. Click here for an application.
For children age 4 and younger: one chaperone per four students is allowed
For children age 5 and older: one chaperone per five students is allowed
For preschool/daycare groups: let us know in advance if additional chaperones will provide transportation
For security reasons, all chaperones must arrive with their group, and leaders must remain with their students.
Reservations are required at least one month in advance. To schedule a school or community group visit to Winterthur, please call 800.448.3883 or TTY 302.888.4907. The reservation office is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, 8:30am-3:30pm on Saturday, and 9:00am-2:00pm on Sunday. We will send you a confirmation of your reservation.
Navigation: If you plan to arrive by school bus, enter Winterthur through the Route 52 entrance and use this map to navigate to the museum building.
Dining: All groups are welcome to eat at Winterthur. You may purchase lunch at our visitor center or bring your own. Please make us aware if it your intent to eat before or after your visit so we can confirm that space is available. Winterthur's Picnic House is available for brown-bagger groups of 50 or fewer. With seating for 32 inside and 18 outside, it is heated and equipped with vending machines and restrooms. Seating is also available at the Visitor Center on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups picnicking in the Enchanted Woods should be prepared for rustic seating (no picnic tables) and must remove their own trash.
