Rights & Reproductions
Digital images, photocopies, and photographs of items from the Winterthur Library collections are available to researchers. Winterthur Library staff is committed to making library holdings as accessible and available as possible.
Researchers may download collection images free of charge from the library's website for personal use. Library users may also use their own equipment to photograph collection materials for personal use and do their own photocopying in certain parts of the library.
Individuals who wish to include a copy of an image from the Winterthur Library in a publication, web page or other electronic medium, film, exhibit, etc., must first obtain permission.
Images of items from Winterthur Library collections cannot be reproduced for commercial advertising purposes.
Material under copyright cannot be duplicated without the written permission of the copyright owner. Full responsibility for any infringement of copyright is assumed by the library user.
Rights to reproduce an image are granted for one-time, one-use, non-exclusive, worldwide, English language only. Any additional formats or languages, further revisions, editions, or re-printings require the submission of a new request. Permission for any future media not yet invented or in perpetuity rights will not be granted.
A Winterthur permission letter will be generated when responding to a photo order. No outside agreements or permission forms will be signed.
Library users do not have to secure permission to quote from unpublished manuscript or archival items that are free of copyright restrictions. Full responsibility for any infringement of copyright is assumed by the user.
Requests for images of museum objects may be submitted by email to ImageRequest@winterthur.org.
