Join us for a study day focused on providing the collector, curator, student, and conservator with specific questions to ask, an objective methodology with which to pursue the answers, and sources to turn to for additional assistance.

Join us for the 2nd annual Winterthur design conference, with emphasis on the architects, designers, and patrons of the 1930s.
Speakers include Ruth Lord Holmes (daughter of Henry Francis du Pont), Stephen Salny (independent scholar and author), R. Louis Bofferding (lecturer and antiques dealer), Peter Pennoyer (Peter Pennoyer Architects, NYC), Jeni Sandberg (Christie's), and Eric Cohler (Eric Cohler Design, NYC).

Come and admire the beautiful peony collection of herbaceous and tree peonies in shades of pink, white, crimson, and yellow. This includes the collection of A.P.Saunders hybrids. We will discuss the history, care, and maintenance of herbaceous and tree peonies.

Taggart-Grycky Flute and Guitar Duo University of Delaware Faculty Concert

Flutist, Eileen Grycky, and classical guitarist, Christiaan Taggart, make up the Taggart-Grycky Duo, in residence at the University of Delaware. The acclaimed duo will perform Dances in the Madhouse by David Leisner, Three Pieces from the Ballet Gayane by Aram Khachaturian, and Traveling Songs by Robert Maggio, written for the Taggart-Grycky Duo.

The Winterthur Garden is home to an impressive array of grand old trees, several of which lay claim to the title of “Delaware State Champion” for their respective species. Join Winterthur’s Arborist Superintendent, John Salata, on an insightful walking tour highlighting these venerable giants of the garden. John will provide a glimpse into the inner workings of what managing and maintaining Winterthur’s arboreal population entails, and will offer practical information and tips on caring for the trees on your property.

Meet at 11:30am at the Visitor Center garden tram pick up spot for a speical tram run to the Magnolia Bend stop.

As part of the restoration of the Pinetum, ground cover plantings were added not only to help define and offer direction to some of the walking paths, but also to enhance the feel and texture of a conifer forest. Come see some familiar, as well as some not so familiar, garden plants and learn how particular choices in the design were made.

Quilt Documentation Day

Owners of quilts made before 1945 are encouraged to bring their quilts to this informative documentation process which involves photographing each quilt, recording its physical characteristics, and gathering historical information about the quilt and/or quiltmaker. There is no program cost to quilt-owners for this process. Pre-registration is strongly recommended as there is a set limit on the number of quilts that can be documented. Walk-ins on a space-available basis. Please call 302.888.4600 (museum) after Feb. 1 to register and 302.739.5316 for information on the Quilt Documentation Project.
The Delaware Quilt Documentation Project is a collaborative effort between the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs and the University of Delaware. The project is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Humanities Forum, a nonprofit organization that receives funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
