Winterthur is closed to the public on Labor Day, Monday, September 1.

November 22, 2014–January 4, 2015

Viewers from around the globe have enjoyed glimpses of Christmas on a country estate, as featured on special episodes of Downton Abbey. Now you can experience a country estate Christmas in person during Yuletide at Winterthur—the home where H. F. du Pont and his family and friends gathered every year to celebrate the holiday.

We begin our blast into the past in the Court, where the du Ponts viewed first-run films during the holiday season and where you’ll see movie clips from the era. Then we arrive at a new Christmas tree on the tour this year, one that celebrates our Costumes of Downton Abbey exhibition. A new display recalls the Staff Sitting Room, where the people who worked behind the scenes to make the holidays at Winterthur a delightful experience were able to rest and relax and entertain their own guests.

You’ll follow the course of the day as you move from the Conservatory to the afternoon gift opening in the Marlboro Room, on to caviar and cocktails in the evening before dinner in the glittering dining room, and next to midnight card games and dancing—all set against the backdrop of gorgeous decorations and magnificent flowers, which H. F. du Pont called “the Christmas Show.”

Join us for a magical Yuletide tour and experience life on a country estate during the holidays at Yuletide at Winterthur.
