Wellness at Winterthur - Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library

The power of nature as a tool to promote a healthier body, mind, and spirit is no secret. What better place than Winterthur to learn about ways to introduce better wellness into your life? Our beautiful, 60-acre garden and 1,000 acres of rolling hills, streams, meadows, and forests provide a powerful and peaceful natural setting in which to follow your individual body, mind, spirit approach toward achieving optimal wellness!

Wellness at Winterthur is an exclusive program that includes yoga classes, guided meditation, and lectures.  In addition, Members are encouraged to walk our grounds from dawn to dusk, as part of the many benefits of Winterthur membership.




Wellness Lecture Series—Free to Members!

Select Thursdays throughout the spring and summer

Join local experts in various specialties to increase your knowledge and practice of healthy living and learn about a variety of wellness topics. Members free. Nonmembers $15.

  • June 8, 10:00 am: Alison Smith Driscoll, "The Importance of Meditation." Learn how to tame the mind and meditate. Questions about meditation will be explored in this talk in an informative and humorous way. Alison will share from her own experience as a longtime meditator and meditation teacher about what meditation is all about, as well as dispelling some of the myths and misconceptions. After her talk, Alison will introduce you to a basic practice of meditation and leave plenty of time for your questions. Brown Center, Members free, $15 per nonmember.
  • Thursday, July 13, 10:00 am: Alison Smith Driscoll, "Healing with Nature"
    Alison will offer practical information about herbs and spices and offer basic principles and practices drawn from the Ayurvedic tradition.   Alison and our horticulturist Carol Long will discuss the use of herbs and spices in simple and tasty recipes to create healing from the inside out in your day-to-day life. Brown Center, Members free, $15 per nonmember.
  • Thursday August 10, 10:00 am: Meredith Perny, "Aging Gracefully"
    In this session Dr. Meredith H. Perny will return to discuss the aging process that begins even in our 40s. She will provide information and exercises to help counterbalance the typical changes that occur with aging. Learn how to maintain strength, flexibility, balance, and independence as you move into your 60s, 70s, and beyond. Brown Center, Members free, $15 per nonmember.

Gentle Yoga, Year-Round

Every Thursday, 9:00 am, Brown Learning Center

Try practicing yoga in a beautiful garden setting, strengthening your body and spirit. Our yoga class is open to all levels. We will practice slow, easy motions to get into the rhythm of nature. Led by Beth Sheehy. Bring Yoga mat, small towel, and a water bottle. Wear layers appropriate to the season. Classes are rain or shine.  Class will move outdoors as weather permits. Drop-in rate of $10.  No advance registration necessary.  Members may bring a friend.

Guided Meditation

July 6 & 20, August 3, September 7, October 5, 10:00 am, Brown Learning Center

Meditation sessions will guide you in settling your mind and opening your heart. We will use imagery, visualizations, mindfulness of body and breath, and the environment of Winterthur to cultivate relaxation, a sense of well-being, and appreciation of the natural beauty all around us.
Led by Alison Smith Driscoll, Mary Wheeling, and Beth Sheehy. Bring an open mind and heart! Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
Class will move outdoors as weather permits. $10 per class. Register for each class by calling 800.448.3883. Drop-ins are welcome as long as there is room!
